Middle School Receives $20K Grant For STEM Program

Twin Valley Middle School is the recipient of a $20,000 grant from Project Lead The Way (PLTW)

Berks-Mont News

ELVERSON, Pa. — Twin Valley Middle School announced that it is the recipient of a $20,000 grant from Project Lead The Way (PLTW), the nation’s leading science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) program.

The grant was made possible by a generous donation from Bemis Company, Inc. Funds from the grant will support the implementation of the PLTW Gateway to Engineering, including the purchase of materials and equipment that will be used in the hands-on, activity-, project-, and problem-based courses that are a distinguishing characteristic of PLTW’s curriculum.

The Twin Valley Middle School will begin offering a foundation unit called Automation & Robotics as an elective where 7th grade students will use the VEX Robotics® platform to learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotic arms.
