$43 Million in Public Safety Broadband Grants

State and local governments can now apply for funding to help with the construction, operation and implementation of public safety broadband networks that keep first responders in contact with each other at all times. The National Telecommunication and Information Administration and the U.S. Department of Commerce are funding the State and Local Implementation Grant Program 2.0 (SLIGP), providing $43.4 billion in public safety broadband grants.

The network is part of a three-pronged effort to increase public safety and homeland security by helping governments achieve and maintain public safety broadband networks that are a central hub for emergency communications .

The public safety broadband grants are based on state population, and will range between $250,000 and $425,000 over two separate payouts. Matching funds of 20 percent from non-federal sources are required.

Applications for the SLIGP 2.0 grants are due by Dec. 28.
