$340M in Firefighter Training Grants

SAFER is now accepting applications through March 25, 2016 for local fire departments.

The Department of Homeland Security’s Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) is now accepting applications through March 25, 2016 for local fire departments. SAFER provides federal funding to recruit and train professional and volunteer firefighters.

“Too often our municipalities must balance limited budgets with their substantial needs. At times, critical emergency services in our communities could be on the chopping block," said Congressman Frank LoBiondo of New Jersey, a member of the Congressional Fire Caucus 1 .

Some $340 million is available.
